Spurred on by a rally from
London to Mongolia in 2009 i've very much got the travelling bug.
The rally took me through twelve countries. England, France, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhzstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. Prior to the rally i'd only been to around five other countries. You can read more about my Mongol Rally trip in my
Mongol Rally Diary.
In April 2011 I drove across America with James (James had also done the Mongol Rally in 2009 though we didn't do it together and didn't even meet up until we'd both been back for a while). We flew to Los Angeles and drove East (mainly through the Deep South), up all the way into Ontario and back down finishing in New York where Jane and Max had flown in to meet me and stay for a week in NYC. All in all we passed through over twenty states. As always I wrote a
diary (and as usual stopped before the end). You can read more about the trip on the
US Road Trip Page.
After getting back from the US I got the idea it would be a nice goal to try and visit fifty countries by the time I reach fifty years old. It feels as though it's a doable challenge but of course the more countries that you tick off then further afield you have travel and the more expensive it becomes. I've put my list over at the
Fifty By Fifty page.
